UAH Unveils New License Plate Design to Fuel School Spirit and Support Space Camp Scholarships in Huntsville
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (NOV 4, 2025) – Drivers across Alabama can soon showcase their support for The University of Alabama in Huntsville through an innovative vehicle tag set to launch in 2026. This fresh design highlights the updated UAH Athletics emblem, featuring a striking Charger Blue horse silhouette against a vibrant blue outline of the Huntsville skyline and subtle gray mountain backdrop. As a member of The University of Alabama System, UAH continues to strengthen its role in the region's educational and economic landscape.
The license plate goes beyond mere symbolism by incorporating elements that nod to key local landmarks, such as structures from the UAH campus and the nearby U.S. Space & Rocket Center. Revenue generated from sales will directly contribute to an emerging scholarship program aimed at aiding graduates of the Space Camp program.
This visual representation underscores UAH's deep-rooted integration with the Huntsville community, according to insights from the director of Alumni Relations and Special Events, who also leads the UAH Alumni Association overseeing the initiative. A significant portion of UAH graduates opt to build their careers locally, enhancing the area's workforce and innovation ecosystem. The plate serves as a marker of institutional loyalty while channeling funds toward student financial aid, creating a multifaceted benefit for the university and its supporters.
Each year, around 2,500 participants complete Space Camp, presenting a pool of talented prospects for higher education. UAH's enrollment management team views this scholarship as a strategic way to draw these accomplished individuals to the campus, fostering long-term ties with the program.
Collaboration has been key, with Space Camp personnel assisting in the rollout. Eligible graduates will obtain a certificate outlining the award, followed by ongoing outreach from UAH admissions to highlight campus offerings throughout their high school years.
Upon meeting admission criteria and enrolling at UAH, these students can access renewable yearly funding: $1,000 for Alabama residents and $2,000 for those from other states. All proceeds from the Alabama tags will specifically bolster in-state awards.
This partnership leverages Space Camp's established reputation, made possible through coordinated efforts between UAH's alumni and enrollment divisions.
Prospective students and families can find comprehensive details on the UAH Space Camp Scholarship via the university's online resources. For inquiries, reach out to the UAH Office of Admissions at 256-824-2773 or admissions@uah.edu.
The specialty plate is priced at $50 annually, with nearly all of that amount—$48.75—allocated to the scholarship fund. This fee is added to standard vehicle registration costs by the Alabama Department of Revenue.
